A South African filmmaker working in a wildlife center in the northwest of Johannesburg has been killed by a giraffe.
According to CallaCrew film agency Carlos Carvalho was attacked by a giraffe while he was filming the animal in Glen Wildlife Center.
He was immediately taken to a hospital in Johannesburg but died of massive head injuries.
South African media say the filmmaker wanted to get additional close-up shot from the giraffe, named Gerald, but the animal swung his head and knocked him on the head, sending him 5 meters to air. The 47-year-old filmmaker hit the ground with head.
Carlos Carvalho was one of the most prominent international filmmakers. He had received cinematography award from the Film Academy of South Africa. Before his death he had started the shooting stage for the series ‘Wild at Heart’ for itv Channel.
